Visiting the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus for official contacts, Gambia Vice President Badara Alieu Joof visited the Near East University with his delegation and met with Gambian students. Joof, who also visited the TRNC’s domestic car GÜNSEL, took a test drive with GÜNSEL’s first model B9 and got information about the mass production activities.


Africa is a favorable market for GÜNSEL
Badara Alieu Joof, Vice President of Gambia, welcomed by Near East University Acting Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ and Near East University Vice Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr.Murat Tüzünkan, made his first visit to GÜNSEL at the Near East University Campus. After the test drive, Joof received detailed information about the serial production activities of GÜNSEL from Board Member Yalvaç Akgün. Following the informative meeting, Gambia Vice President Badara Alieu Joof emphasized that GÜNSEL was a successful project and stated that Africa would be a suitable market for GÜNSEL after mass production.

At the meeting also attended by Near East University International Student Office Director Assist. Prof. Dr. Rana Serdaroğlu Tezel and Head of International Relations Department Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sait Akşit, Director of the Near East Institute Assoc. Dr. Mustafa Çıraklı made a comprehensive presentation to Vice President Joof and the accompanying delegation on the education and research vision and opportunities of Near East University.

Vice President Badara Alieu Joof, who also met with Gambian students at the meeting held at the Near East University Hospital after his visit to GÜNSEL, emphasized that he found the level of development of Near East University impressive and said, “It is extremely important for us that our students are studying at one of the best universities in the world.”

Gambia Vice President Badara Alieu Joof, who also met with the President of Northern Cyprus Ersin Tatar before the visit, said that the TRNC has made significant contributions to the Gambia education system and hoped that the cooperation between the two countries would be developed not only in education but also in other fields such as international relations, tourism and culture.

Welcoming Gambia Vice President Badara Alieu Joof at Near East University, Near East University Acting Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ and Near East University Vice Rector Assoc. Dr. Murat Tüzünkan also conveyed information about the university to Vice President Badara Alieu Joof.

Drawing attention to the international identity of Near East University with its students from 143 countries, Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ said, “As Near East University, with our vision of education that focuses on scientific production, research, development, art and technology, we train graduates who contribute to the development not only of our country but also of many countries in the world, especially in Africa. Reminding that Near East University has been shown as one of the best universities in the world by many international higher education rating institutions, Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ said, “We train our Gambian students studying at our university to be leaders in the process of development of their country by graduating them in a highly equipped and experienced manner.”
